Seasoning a Cast Iron Wok/Steel Wok
This method can be used to season a cast iron/steel wok. Whether you want to season a new wok or an old rusty one, you should start by scrub it inside and out with a steel wool scouring pad. Doing this, you will be able to remove the protective coating from the new wok, or if you have an old one, you will remove the rust. Sometimes either the rust or the wok's protective coating can be hard to remove. If this happens, fill the cast iron wok with hot water and wait 10-15 minutes. Then try again.
Now that the wok is clean, it's time to put it over high heat. Dip several sheets of wadded-up paper towel into peanut or corn oil and wipe the oil on the entire inside surface of the wok. Now reduce heat and let the wok absorb the oil for about 15 minutes. If anytime during this 15 minutes process you see that the wok's surface is drying, put more oil and if everything was done correctly your wok will be black(or almost black). If the wok is not fully black, it's ok because it will get darker with use.
Keep The Wok Dry
